Ever since the company was founded in 1989, the RentGrow team has focused on "improving property performance." In the early 1990's, RentGrow developed its first service: AppSystem, an expert system (client server technology) that automated the credit decision process to reduce the time and subjectivity involved in screening applicants. AppSystem generated a recommended decision that used to take hours, or even days, in as little as a few minutes.

The credit decision system behind AppSystem was based upon the credit decision studies and doctoral thesis, "The Decision to Grant Credit", written at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Using this thesis, a team of software engineers worked to design the most advanced credit decision system available. They concluded from their research that using a scoring model could effectively measure the risk levels associated with different applicants.

Since that time, RentGrow has moved to the Internet and added criminal eviction data, along with online applicant screening solutions for today's multifamily world. Today, with over a decade of screening experience, RentGrow's systems have proven time and again to improve property performance - improving occupancy and  marketing effectiveness while reducing bad debt, and ensuring FCRA and FHA compliance.
